What KCRealtime collects.
KCRealtime is a free, ad-supported public-information dashboard. Here is everything the site collects and why.
Anonymous device ID
A random UUID is stored in your browser’s localStorage so we can remember your favorited cameras between visits. It is not tied to your name, email, IP address, or any personal data. You can clear it at any time by clearing site data in your browser.
Geolocation (opt-in)
If you choose to share your location, we use it only in your browser to sort cameras and restaurants by distance. Your coordinates are never sent to our server and are not stored beyond your current session.
Push notifications (opt-in)
If you subscribe to severe weather alerts, your browser’s VAPID push endpoint is stored so the National Weather Service’s tornado / severe-thunderstorm / flash-flood warnings can be delivered. You can unsubscribe at any time from the bell icon in the header or your browser’s site settings.
UI preferences
Small key/value flags in localStorage remember which UI options you’ve selected — for example whether Cinema mode is on, whether you’ve dismissed the “Start here” bubble, or whether you prefer smooth-polling on the camera dialog. None of these are personal data; all stay on your device.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
KCRealtime displays Google AdSense ads to fund the site. AdSense uses cookies to serve relevant ads; you can manage ad personalization at adssettings.google.com. KCRealtime does not have access to AdSense personalization data.
Analytics (Google Analytics, if enabled)
When configured, we use Google Analytics to count page views and referring sites in aggregate — never to identify individuals. You can opt out using the official Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Public-data sources we aggregate
KCRealtime pulls live, publicly available data from KanDrive, KC Scout, MoDOT, KDOT, the National Weather Service, ESPN team schedules, Ticketmaster Discovery, and various RSS news feeds. We do not republish anything those sources do not already publish openly.
